Stamping With Blue Moon Creations

Vanessa’s Butterfly in Picture Frame

When I saw the butterfly in the frame on the cover of the new Stampin’ Up! catalog, I knew I had to make one for my boss’ daughter, Vanessa.  I have worked for her parents for 10 years, and she turns 11 on Aug 30th!  Hard to believe.  I remember her sitting on my lap while I read to her in the office.  Then came coloring in the Winnie the Pooh coloring books.  I still have the crayons and coloring books in my desk drawer.  Anyway, Vanessa loves butterflies.  This is will be her birthday present.

It was really very simple to create. I cut out two butterflies using the template found here:

One was cut out in Bashful Blue Print paper, the other in regular Bashful Blue card stock.  I attached the two layers using Snail adhesive in the middle of the bottom butterfly.

I used the pin from the Pretties Kit and added beads I had in my beading supplies for the body.  The hardest part was making the antenna.  I used 26 gauge wire from Western Crafts.  I used a small drop of Crystal Effects to help secure the antenna to the pin head. To help secure the body, I punched four 1/16″ holes (two near the top and two near the bottom of the center of the butterfly) and then ran the same 26 gauge wire over the pin, through the holes and tied it in the back.

I ran a row of Dimensionals between the two butterfly layers to add dimension and bring up the top butterfly layer.

I used shimmery white card stock (my favorite) for the background.  I punched out the Pink Pirouette scallop border using the new Scallop Edge punch and attached it to the white background using Snail Adhesive.  I attached the butterfly to the background using a piece of Sticky Strip along the center of the body.

The frame came from Hobby Lobby.

I have this framed butterfly sitting on my kitchen table, and I admire it every time I walk by.  It really is very cute, and I know Vanessa will love it.  It still amazes me when projects turn out well!  I think to myself, “Wow, I created that!”  I need to make one for me to keep….
