Stamping With Blue Moon Creations

Timeless Faux Mother of Pearl

I am making a concerted effort to use My Digital Studio more in my crafting. My Digital Studio is digital design software from Stampin’ Up!   I often forget about the creating possibilities found in My Digital Studio.  Everything from photobooks, cards, calendars and more!

This card was my swap for the Saturday Stamp Club.  The theme was to use a border(s). This card is a hybrid card, meaning part of it  (the images and text) were created in My Digital Studio, printed out on card stock, then other embellishments and matting were added.  The background technique is faux Mother of Pearl.   See below for quick instructions.

The stamp set is Timeless and is one of the hundreds and hundreds of downloads available for My Digital Studio.  I really like the bicycle image and I thought the ruler image was really cool and would fit in with the borders theme perfectly.  I used my new Itty Bitty Punch Pack to punch out the small flower for the tires.  The Itty Bitty Punch pack has been around for awhile, but I just purchased it for myself after eyeing it for a long time.  I don’t know why I waited so long!

Faux Mother of Pearl Technique

You will need Frost White Shimmer paint, glossy white card stock, a piece of plastic wrap, regular die ink, and a brayer or sponge.

1. Add a small amount of shimmer paint to a piece of scrunched up plastic wrap.

2. Dab the plastic wrap all over your piece of glossy white card stock.  Make sure you leave some of the card stock blank.  Let the shimmer paint dry completely.

3.  Once dry, brayer or sponge a light colored Classic ink over the card stock.  Let it dry for a moment and then wipe with a paper towel.

I created the faux Mother of Pearl background first on a full sheet of glossy white card stock.  I brayered on Tangerine Tango, then sponged on a little Poppy Parade. Once the background dried, I put the card stock directly into my printer and printed the basic images and text created in My Digital Studio. I set it up so I would have 2 sets of images and text on 1 sheet of card stock.  Then, I cut it down to create 2 cards.  The card size is 6 3/4 x 3 3/4  and will fit in a regular business-sized envelope.
