Here is this week’s sketch found over at Stamping 411.
And here is my take.
My husband saves the bottle caps from the various types of beer he likes to drink. One of my favorite bottle caps are found on the beer from the Left Hand Brewing Company located in Longmont, Colorado. It is a perfect embellishment for a friendly hello card!
For this card, I layered the Real Red scalloped matting and the black and white polka dot designer paper onto the whisper white card base. Then, I punched a hole through all layers using a 1 1/4″ circle punch. For me, this is so much easier to do rather than punching the pieces individually and then trying to line them up.
After cutting out the flower using my Big Shot and Fun Flowers die, I traced a circle in the center of the flower using the cut out circle from the previous step. Then, I lined up the 1 1/4″ circle punch around the traced circle and punched. I often have trouble centering things like this, so I took the extra step to trace where I wanted the circle before I punched. The flower was then added to the front.
To attach the bottle cap, I put a small amount of Crystal Effects into the top of an old peanut butter jar. I then dabbed the bottom of the bottle cap in the Crystal Effects, moving it around so all the rim would have a coating. Then, I placed the bottle cap through the middle of the flower, securing it to the inside of the card. (It takes the Crystal Effects a little while to dry, so I just held the bottle cap in place while it dried completely.) I did this because I wanted the bottle cap to sit on the inside of the card so there wouldn’t be so much bulk on the outside of the card for mailing purposes. Plus, I think it adds a little extra WOW to have the bottle cap on the inside when the card is opened.
To finish off the inside, I added black circle rims around the bottle cap. These rims were easy to make. First I punched a 1 1/4″ circle out of black card stock. Then punched a 1 3/8″ circle around the 1 1/4″ hole, creating a thin rim.
