Just in time for wrapping those last minute gifts!
Create your own wrapping paper using packing paper and the Batik technique. This technique also works on fabric!
Create this:
To wrap this!
What you need:
Packing or wrapping paper to fit the package you are wanting to wrap. I recycled the brown paper that is used as packing in Stampin’ Up! orders. You can also use plain white wrapping paper. For this project, I cut the paper into a 6″x6″ square.
bold image stamps-I used Ornament Keepsakes, Snowflake Soiree and Circle Circus to create different wrapping papers.

newspaper
cardboard box or something to protect your work surface
1. Cut your paper to the size needed to wrap your gift.
2. Stamp bold images on the paper using white craft ink. Add white embossing powder and heat emboss using a heat tool.
Tip: Normally, I would suggest rubbing an Embossing Buddy over the paper before stamping, but with this technique, the little flecks of embossing powder help complete the look.
I suggest using white craft ink instead of Versamark simply because it is easier to see the images stamped in white, especially if you are doing this technique on white paper or fabric.
3. Spray the Color Wash on the embossed paper. Keep the color as light or make it as dark as you want. Be sure to cover your work surface. I placed the paper in a cardboard box before spraying.
4. The color wash needs to be heat set. Layer paper between sheets of newsprint. Heat with iron (no steam, high temp) until color wash is absorbed in the paper.
5. Open up the newspaper and remove the paper. If the paper sticks to the newspaper, heat areas again as needed with the iron. The color wash needs to be completely dry before the paper will easily peel away from the newspaper.
6. Crumple up the paper and then smooth out. Lightly dab white craft ink over the ridges, creating the batik look. Set aside to let the craft ink dry.

Option: This technique works with fabric also. Use white muslin fabric and use the steps
above. It will be harder to see the
white craft ink stamped on the white muslin fabric. When looking at your fabric, divide it into
4ths. Stamp one section at a time using
the rule of “3’s”. Stamp 3 images in a
triangle formation. Then, move onto the
next section, stamp in a triangle formation, move onto next section… If it helps, emboss each section before
moving onto the next. You can fill in
areas as needed with a smaller or greeting stamp. As always, be careful not to scorch or burn
your fabric with the heat tool.

These acid-free, non-toxic, water-based dyes are perfect for use on paper,
fibers, fabric and more. The dyes were designed to produce batik and hand-dyed
looks on craft and textile projects. The dyes are acid-free, non-toxic, and
water-based. They are available in 2 fl. oz. spray bottles. Colors used for my wrapping paper are “Cranberry”, “ Purple Twilight” and “Denim”.
