The idea for this card came from this week’s online challenges over at Less is More and One Layer Wednesday. The LIM theme was “Drinks” and the OLW was “Cheers.” I initially created the card without the red circles around the beer bottle caps so it would truely be a one layer card. But then, I started second guessing myself and thinking that it really wouldn’t work for the challenges because they asked for beverage images, not parts of the beverage packaging! Even though my husband liked the card and said it would work, I ended up submitting another totally different card for the challenges.
Anyway, I love creating cards using old bottle caps. The selection of beers that my husband likes to drink usually have really interesting bottle caps that he saves for me. One of my all-time favorite caps to craft with are these red hands from “Stranger” beer made by the Left Hand Brewing Company, right here in Colorado in Longmont. He hasn’t purchased any “Stranger” beer in awhile and these were the last three in my stash!
I punched three holes in the Basic Black card base using my 1 3/8″ circle punch. The beer caps are glued on the inside of the card using Crystal Effects around the rims. I do this to help alleviate some of the bulk, especially if the card is going to be mailed.
Once I decided I would not use the card for the challenges (especially the one layer challenge!), I added the Real Red circles around the punched holes on the front and on the inside.
The outside circles were created by first punching a 1 3/8″ circle punch, then punching a 1 3/4″ circle around the hole creating a thin rim. The inside circles were created by punching a 1 1 /4″ scallop circle, then using the 1 3/4″ circle punch around the holes, creating a thin scalloped edge rim.
