Adding Texture Backgrounds Using Paper Towels-Lift Me Up Balloon

Lift me up 002

One of my favorite stamping techniques is incorporating used paper towels in my crafting to create interesting textured backgrounds.

With this card, I paired the paper towel with hot air balloon in the new framelit collection Up & Away  by Stampin’ Up! which is found in the Occasions Catalog!

I often use damp paper towels to clean my stamps and blocks.  This is the one that I used to clean my blocks after various tie dye stamping projects I did for Christmas cards.

I lay them flat and let them dry.  I know to some it looks like something that should be thrown away, but not to me!

Recycle and reuse, right?

Lift me up 002

This one had been sitting on my craft table for the longest time.  I kept eyeing it, thinking what a pretty collection of colors it was and how it would make a very colorful and textured background for an upcoming project.  When I received my pre-order for the new Occasions Catalog which included the fun Lift Me Up Bundle (stamp set Lift Me Up and the Up & Away Framelits), I knew immediately what I’d do with the paper towel!

Coming from ABQ, the hot air balloon capital of the world, I knew I had to have this bundle.

To start, I cut the balloon out of Pink Pirouette card stock using my Big Shot and the balloon framelit.  I then cut a piece of scrap card stock a little larger than the size of the balloon framelit and glued the paper towel to it using a glue stick as my adhesive.  I attached the Pink Pirouette balloon to the paper towel, then trimmed the paper towel around the balloon using a pair of scissors.  By backing it to a piece of card stock, it gives the paper towel sturdiness to allow for cutting.

For the back ground of the card, I simply sponged on Island Indigo and Marina Mist inks.  The clouds are cut out of Shimmer White card stock using two of the cloud framelits, and the balloon is popped up using Dimensionals.  Tempting Turquoise Candy Dots were added for a little bit of interest.

The greeting is included in Lift Me Up, and is perfect!

Love the texture the paper towel gives behind the balloon.
