Masculine Card-Crafting with Paint Chips

Paint Chip GearsOne of my all-time favorite stamping techniques is to use paint chip samples found in the paint department at our local home improvement store.

I recently found these masculine-themed paint chips.

Perfect for those sometimes hard to create masculine cards!

Masculine Paint Chip Samples

For the card above, I chose the paint chip with the gear image.  With Father’s Day coming up, I thought this would be a great one to use.

Instead of using a greeting specifically for Father’s Day, I used one from Dragonfly Dreams which I thought would make the card all purpose.

It would work for Father’s Day, as well as birthday, retirement, etc.

As you can tell from the sampler chips, they all have the Behr brand symbol, plus the names of the paint colors.

To get around this, I simply trimmed the top of the chip to just enough to remove the symbol and then trimmed the bottom to match.

Originally, the tops and bottoms of the chips are curved.  By trimming them slightly, they are now square.

To cover up the name of the paint color in the center, I simply created a banner for my greeting that is 3/4″ wide.

I sponged some Early Espresso ink along the edges of the banner and added a brad from my stash as added interest.

The card is mounted on an Early Espresso card base to complete.

I just let the paint chip do most of the work!
