How to Make an Origami Rabbit

How to make an Origami Rabbit!

Just in time for those Easter cards and projects!

I made this Origami Easter Rabbit with a matching envelope for our 5-year-old Granddaughter.

I used the pretty Pansy Patch Designer Series Paper (retiring at the end of this month), plus the Playful Pals stamp set and coordinating Pyramid Pals Dies for the face.

Playful Pals has been retired for a few years, but I keep it in my stash for occasions such as this.

We now have young grandchildren, and this set is perfect for making cards appropriate for their age.

Eventually, I’ll have to move on, but this is a great set to use for now.

The Origami Rabbit is easy to create, but it might be a little difficult for me to explain.

I’ll try my best, but it might be easier for you to watch my how-to video HERE.

Anyway, I’ll give it a try!

Here’s How:

  1. Start with a square piece of paper.  I think card stock would be too heavy and hard to crease and fold.  I used the designer paper, which is pretty heavy and is probably the thickest paper you would want to use.  My piece measured 6″x6″.
  2. Fold in half to make a crease.  Use a bone folder to get crisp score lines in all folding steps.
  3. Rotate and fold in half again.
  4. Fold up the bottom edge to form a triangle.
  5. Fold up bottom ends to meet the center crease line.  This will create the rabbit ears.
  6. Turn the piece over, and fold the top down, exposing more of the ears.
  7. Optional: Fold up the bottom tip to form the rabbit’s chin.  I did not do this as the paper was just too thick.  Instead, I hid the rabbit’s chin in the grass for the final card.
  8. I had a slight overhang on both sides of the rabbit’s face, so I folded those parts back, cut a slit along the fold line, and trimmed the excess away.  (Watch the video!)
  9. Stamp the face and ears before securing the folds. I used Rich Razzleberry ink and the Playful Pals stamp set.
  10. To secure the pieces, I used SNAIL Adhesive for the top triangle.  Tear & Tape was used to secure the bottom fold and the 2 side triangles for attaching the rabbit to the card front
  11. Now, to finish the card

-Stamp and cut bow using the coordinating Pyramid Pals Die.  Attach to rabbit using a Mini Dimensional to pop it up

-Cut a strip of Pear Pizzazz card stock and cut using pinking shears to create the grass.  Sponge Garden Green ink along the edges.

-Attach New Horizons DSP card front to Rich Razzleberry card base.  Attach grass using a Tear & Tape Adhesive strip on the bottom edge of the grass.

-Apply Tear & Tape Adhesive to the back of the rabbit.  Remove the backing and slip rabbit underneath the grass.

-Stamp greeting on a scrap piece of New Horizon DSP using Rich Razzleberry ink.  Punch out and attach to card front using Mini Dimensionals to pop it up.  I used the stamp from the retired Bunny Buddies Paper Pumpkin Kit.  I’ve also saved this one to use for Easter projects.

-To create the envelope, I used my retired Envelope Punch Board which has been retired for several years.  I’m not sure why I decided I needed a matching envelope for this card, but it’s probably because I wanted this card to be extra special for our Granddaughter!  So, I dusted off the Envelope Board.  It took me a few moments to reacquaint myself with the instructions, but in the end, it was easy.

I hope our Granddaughter will like her card!

And, I hope you do too.

Give it a try, and let me know how it goes!
