Aluminum Can Labels in Crafting

Upcycle!

I’ve shared many cards I have created using beer or soda aluminum cans over the years.

My husband drinks various craft beers, and I’m always confiscating the cans afterward.

I cut the cans down and use the fun and colorful labels to create cards.

It’s good to recycle and reuse, plus they make great masculine-themed cards!

You can see some of the cards, HERE-including a video tutorial on how to cut down the cans for use in card making

I used the label from a can of ginger beer from the Rocky Mountain Soda Company in Denver, CO.

Each type of soda features an animal on the label.  In this case, the ginger beer have deer on it!

What’s different about this card is that I didn’t use the can for my card.

The can does not have a printed label. Instead, the label is a  plastic sleeve.

I ran a pair of scissors down the side to remove the label.

To make it easy, there was a perforated seam.

I could carefully peel the label from the can once the seam was cut.

Then, it was just a matter of flattening the label, attaching it to a piece of card stock so I could easily cut it to the size I needed, mat the pieces, and attach it to a card front.

I created this card for our neighbor’s birthday.

He’s an outdoorsman, so the images on the label are perfect.

This is great for creating masculine-themed cards in a matter of minutes!

Here’s How:

  1. Cut along the perforation on the plastic label on the can.  Remove label.
  2. Cut the top and bottom rims off the label to lay flat.  Attach a piece of card stock so it can easily be cut down to the needed size.
  3. Cut into pieces and attach to matting (Basic Black)
  4. Stamp greeting on the card front.  For this card, I used the “happy birthday” stamp from the retired Celebrate Flowers stamp set.  I placed the stamp on my Stamparatus and stamped .
  5. Attach panels to the card front (Basic Gray).  Then attach to the card base (Crushed Curry) to complete.

Done!

The possibilities are endless!
