Using Drywall Tape for an Easy Background

I paired the background with this card’s stamp set, Bottled Happiness from Stampin’ Up!.

Use the sticky-backed tape used for drywalling for added interest in your card-making.

The drywall tape comes in a roll and can be found at your local home improvement store.

Here’s what the roll looks like. I’ve had this roll in my crafting stash for many years.

It’s a mesh with a sticky back.  Just cut off the amount needed with scissors, and place it on your card front.

Then, add color through the mesh using Blender Brushes or sponges.

Here’s what it looks like rolled out. On black card stock, so it is visible.

Here’s How:

1. For the background, lay two strips of drywall tape on a Basic White card front.  With Blending Brushes, add Crushed Curry and Calypso Coral inks through the mesh of the tape.  Make the colors dark or light as desired.  Remove drywall tape, and you’ll have a colorful gridded background.  The color possibilities are endless!

Done! See how easy that was!

Now to complete the card:

2. Two-step stamp the bottle from the Bottle of Happiness stamp set.  Stamp the solid image using Pool Party ink.  Then, stamp the outline image using Night of Navy ink.  Punch using the coordinating Bottle Punch.

3. Two-step stamp the flowers.  I found it easiest for me to start with the flower image.  And I found using a stamp positioning tool like the Stamparatus is easiest.  Using the tool will allow you to stamp the image in stages and fill in areas if needed.

TIP: place the stamp with the large daisy at the bottom.  This will help with aligning the leaf image in the next step.

First, I inked up the large flowers using my Blackberry Bliss Stampin’ Write Marker, then stamped them.  Next, I inked up the smaller flowers using my Highland Heather Stampin’ Write Maker.  I then colored in the remaining flowers using Tahitian Tide and Melon Mambo markers.

4. Remove the flower image from the Stamparatus and replace it with the leaf image, lining up the flower centers with the stamped image.  Color and stamp the leaves and stems using Granny Apple Green and Garden Green markers.  Stamp the flower centers using Flirty Flamingo markers.

5. Fussy cut image using scissors.  Sorry, no punch or die coordinates with the flower image.

6. Attach drywall background to Night of Navy mat.  Attach to Basic White card base.

7. Attach the bottle and flowers to the card front using Mini Dimensionals to pop them up.

8. Stamp greeting from Sending Smiles on a scrap piece of Lemon Lolly card stock using Night of Navy ink.  Banner cut one end.  Attach to card front using Mini Dimensionals to pop it up.  Adding the banner greeting will also hide the seam between the two strips of drywall tape.

9.  Add metallic dots to the centers of the flowers to complete.
