Construction Zone Pop-Up Card

Construction Zone Pop-Up Card

A birthday card for our grandson Ryan who is turning 5!!

Ryan loves all things construction and mechanical.

For the past couple of years, I have used the now-retired Construction Zone stamp set to create his birthday and Christmas cards.

Construction Zone is one of the stamp sets I won’t get rid of.  At least for now while Ryan is still in his construction fascination phase!

I will admit that I pulled out a lot of retired items to create this card:

Construction Zone and Mountain Air stamp sets, large letter dies (the original big black dies that ran through the Big Shot without needing the platform!), Bark Embossing Folder, Majestic Mountain, and Basic Borders Dies.

You can see the card in action in this short video HERE

Construction Zone Pop-Up Card How To:

Paper Measurements:

Card Base (Basic White): 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″

Pop-Up (Pebble Path): 5 1/4″ x 8 1/4″, scored at 4 1/8″

Front Designer Series Paper (Meandering Meadows): 5″ x 3 3/4″, mat (Pebble Path): 5 1/4″ x 4″

Inside Designer Series Paper (Meandering Meadows): 5″ x 3 7/8″

Inside Bottom Layer(Crumb Cake): 4 1/4″ x 3″

To create Pop Up Mechanism:

-Attach Meandering Meadows DSP to the top inside of the pop-up piece.

-Fold along the score line, and place the piece in a paper trimmer with cutting and scoring blades.

-Place the piece in the paper trimmer, measuring in at 1 1/4″ on one side.  Cut down 1″ using the cutting blade.

-Turn the piece to the back and place it in the paper trimmer, measuring in at 1 1/4″.  Cut the other side down at 1″using the cutting blade.

-Create the top and bottom score lines by inserting the piece back into the trimmer.  Using the scoring blade, connect the top and bottom cut edges.

-Fold along the score lines, (valley, mountain, valley), creating the pop-up mechanism.

To create the inside of the card:

-Attach the pop-up piece to the card base.

-Stamp, color, and fussy cut images from Construction Zone using Pebble Path ink and Stampin’ Write Markers. Die-cut clouds out of Basic White card stock using Majestic Mountain Die.

-Score a piece of 5″ x 1 1/2″ Crumb Cake card stock at 1″ along the bottom edge.  Die-cut the top using Basic Borders Die.  Emboss using the Bark embossing folder.  Emboss the Crumb Cake inside the bottom layer using the Bark embossing folder.  Fold the border along the score line and attach it to the top of the Crumb Cake piece.  Attach to the bottom of the inside, folding up the border piece so it pops up when the card is opened.

-Stamp greeting on Basic White card stock using Pebble Path and Crushed Curry inks.  Attach to Pebble Path mat and add to bottom Crumb Cake layer.

-Attach Construction Zone pieces to the pop-up mechanism using Foam Adhesive Strips to pop them up.  Add the clouds to the top of the insert using Dimensionals to pop them up.  Stamp birds from Mountain Air using Pebble Path ink.

To create the front of the card:

-Attach the designer paper to the Pebble Path mat and attach it to the card front.

-Die-cut letters out of Crushed Curry, Basic White, and Pebble Patch card stock using the individual large letters dies.  Attach to card front using Dimensionals to pop them up.

-Add gems to complete.

Done!

A fun, interactive birthday card for a very active 5-year-old!
