Embossing Paste and Frosted Forest How to:

1. Place card stock or designer paper on a worksheet and secure it with washi or painter’s tape so it doesn’t shift.

2. Place Decorative Mask A on the card front, holding it in place with your fingers.  With a palette knife, spread the embossing paste over the mask like you were frosting a cake.  Remove the mask and let the embossing paste dry.

Tip: There are 3 pine tree Decorative Masks labeled A, B, and C.  The masks each have a notch on the bottom of them.  With a pencil, outline the notch on mask A on your worksheet.  Then, when you place masks B and C, line up the notch on each with the outline on the worksheet for perfect layering.

3. Place Decorative Mask B on the card front, lining up the outline of the notch for Mask A.  Spread embossing paste using the palette knife.  Remove the mask and let the embossing paste dry.

4. Place Decorative Mask C on the card front, again lining up the outline of the notch for Mask A. Spread embossing paste using the palette knife.  Remove the mask and let the embossing paste dry.

5. TIP: Clean the masks and palette knife as soon as you are done as the paste will dry hard.

6. Complete cards as follows:

Merry Christmas card:

I used a design found in the Winter Meadow Designer Series Paper for the background.  The greeting is from Greetings of the Season stamped on a scrap piece of the DSP using Memento Black ink, then matted to a piece of silver glimmer paper.  The card base is Smoky Slate.

Happy New Year card:

For the background, I used the Direct-to-Paper Swipe Technique by swiping a Balmy Blue ink pad across a Basic White card front.

To create the layers of trees, I simply started with the masks placed in the center, then moved them to the right and left.

I used Old Olive ink added onto Mask A using a Blending Brush, then Mossy Meadow onto Mask B, and finished with the Embossing Paste on Mask C.

For the trees in the background, I only used Mask A with a little bit of Old Olive ink.

To clean the palette knife, I added the excess embossing paste to the bottom of the card front.

The sprinkles are from Country Birdhouse stamped using Mossy Meadow ink. The greeting is from Greetings of the Season stamped on a strip of Basic White card stock in Mossy Meadow ink.  I lightly dabbed Balmy Blue ink on top, then matted it to a piece of Mossy Meadow. The card base is Balmy Blue.
