Star Wars Heart
for Valentine’s Day
This project was truly a labor of love for our 5-year-old grandson’s Valentine’s Day gift

Our grandson is an avid fan of Star Wars, even though the original Star Wars movie came out 43 years before he was born.
His love of Star Wars likely comes from his dad, who was just 2 when the original movie premiered but grew up with the sequels and collectibles.
So here goes!
I decided I’d decorate a wooden heart that I found at our local WM store with stencils that I purchased online.
His favorite character is Darth Vader, followed by Darth Moll, Chewbacca, and Yoda, so they definitely needed to be included!
Then I added the Death Star, Tie Fighter, and X Wing ships.
Of course, I am familiar with Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and Yoda, but the other characters not so much.
So, I went online to find photos of the stencils to identify the characters and see their designs before starting.
Boy, do I feel old!
Star Wars Heart How-To
1.Paint wooden heart with white acrylic paint.
2.Determine placement of the stencils and begin to paint using acrylic paints.
-I found that using a round-topped brush worked best for adding paint to the stencils. I used a pounce, pounce stroke. For the little detail parts like Baby Yoda’s mouth, nose, and eyelashes, I used a fine-tipped brush.
- I let each piece dry completely before moving on to avoid smudges.
- My husband drilled holes at the top of the heart for the hanger. I used retired Stampin’ Up! ribbon from my stash, threading it through the holes and knotting the ends at the back.
- I added a Baby Yoda charm to the center of the hanger to match the pun greeting, “Yoda One for Us!” To create the centerpiece, I adhered white card stock to lightweight cardboard, then die-cut a circle using my Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with an old Sizzix circle die. Finally, I added the Yoda stencil. It’s secured with a ribbon tied through a small hole at the top and finished with a bow.
- I created the greeting in Pages, printed it on white cardstock, and stamped two hearts in Real Red using the Sending Love set. After mounting it on black card stock, I attached it to the heart with hot glue and added brads to the top corners for a finishing touch.
Done!
This project was outside my comfort zone, especially the stenciling, so I was a bit nervous.
But I think it turned out pretty cute!
