This kind of project really isn’t in my wheelhouse!
My Mom recently moved into assisted living, and I wanted to create a Valentines that my Mom could hang on her door at her new residence.
So, I took a deep breath and delved into the project full force!
I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to create. A wreath, a plaque, a ????
After a search on Pinterest, I got the idea to decorate a wooden heart, perfect for Valentine’s Day decor.
I was able to pick up a wooden heart at our local WM. Then, it was just a matter of deciding how to decorate it.
The easy part, right?
Well, for the most part it was.
I decided I’d used some of my retired Bee Mine Stampin’ Up! Designer Series Paper cut into strips and layered on the heart using Tombow Liquid Glue after painting the front and back of the heart with white acrylic paint.
Then it was just a matter of going through my crafting supplies to determine what I wanted to use for the decoration.
I looked over my ribbons, through my buttons, beads, and rhinestone gems, and then through some of my retired Stampin’ Up! embellishments.
I used a mishmash of items!
-retired Stitched Satin Ribbon tied into a double bow (I had to watch several videos to learn how to tie a double bow. I finally came across this one by Notches Sewing. Since she goes through the steps SLOWLY, I was able to create a pretty decent double bow. Thank you!)
-retired Mini Striped Ribbon used for the hanger. I inserted rhinestone brads through the drill holes to add a finishing touch.
-“Bee Mine” greeting stamped on Basic White card stock using Memento Black ink, die-cut using Perennial Label die, then attached to Lemon Lime Twist mat, also die-cut using the Perennial Labels Die. The greeting was tied around the bow using a piece of black and white striped baker’s twine.
– bee embellishment was added to the bow
– set of 4 Stampin’ Up! floral magnets. I can’t remember if they were a Demonstrator supply item or if Stampin’ Up! sold them, but I’ve had them forever!
-pink circle and heart-shaped rhinestone gems
-Lemon Lime Twist leaves punched using the Bee Builder Punch
My adhesive was hot glue or Tombow Liquid Glue.
Oh, and a great shout-out to my husband who drilled holes through the top of the heart for the ribbon hanger.
Done!
And it looks great hanging on my Mom’s door!
