Sunflower Embossing Folder Technique: Faux Wood + Cracked Glass

Sunflower Embossing Folder Technique: Faux Wood + Cracked Glass

Here’s an oldie but goodie cardmaking technique with a fresh twist!
Combine the Cracked Glass effect with a Faux Burnt Wood background using the Sunflower Embossing Folder for a look that’s both rustic and vintage.

It’s easier than it looks—just grab your Versamark ink, ultra-thick embossing powder (or regular if that’s what you have on hand), and a heat tool.

This is truly the ultimate embossing technique that adds instant drama and texture to your handmade cards!

Sunflower Embossing Folder Technique: Faux Wood + Cracked Glass How to:

1. Create the Faux Wood Technique:

-emboss Basic White card stock using a die-cut machine and Sunflower Embossing Folder

-swipe 3 colors of ink over the debossed side: Crumb Cake, then Pecan Pie, then Cajun Craze

Using Cajun Craze gives the embossing a slight cherry color that, when combined with the Cracked Glass Technique, turns the image a light pink.

Instead of using Cajun Craze, use Early Espresso for a darker look.

2. Create the Cracked Glass Technique:

-cover embossed card front with Versamark, then add ultra-thick embossing powder and heat emboss using a heat tool.   You want to make sure that the embossing powder fully melts in each step.

-repeat step 2 more times

-place the heat-embossed card front in a freezer for 10 minutes so the embossing powder is fully chilled

-remove from freezer and immediately bend the card front this way and that.  The embossing powder will crack, creating the Cracked Glass effect

Tips:

If you don’t have ultra-thick embossing powder, you can use regular clear embossing powder.  You’ll just need to add 4-5 layers before freezing

If you don’t like the way the piece cracks, simply re-melt the powder using the heat tool and refreeze

To age the piece further, swipe Crumb Cake ink over the top, then wipe off with a paper towel.  The ink will settle in the cracks.

3. Complete the Card:

-attach card front to Pecan Pie mat, then Petal Pink card base

-stamp greeting from Sunshine Vibes on a scrap piece of Petal Pink card stock using Pecan Pie ink.  Attach to a Pecan Pie mat and add to the card front using Dimensionals to pop it up.

The possibilities are endless!
