Fabric Strip Flower-Seize the Birthday Challenge #1

Have you checked out Seize the Birthday, a new challenge site dedicated to birthday cards?  This site will help to inspire you to make birthday cards all year long with fabulous feminine and masculine themes. February is a busy birthday month for me, so I will definitely soak up the inspiration!

This is my contribution to this week’s sketch:

Fabric Strip Flower 002

I saw the idea for this fabric strip flower over at Becky’s Inking Idaho blog site, and immediately knew I needed to make one (or several!)

This flower is so simple to make.  Here’s how:

Start with a strip of fabric about 8″ long and 1 1/2″ to 3″ wide, depending on how big you want your flower to be.  For the flower on the card, I started with an 8″x3″ piece of fabric.  For this mini tutorial, my fabric measured 8″x 1 1/2″.

Apply a strip of Sticky Strip along one of the long edges on the back side of the fabric.

Remove the red backing on the Sticky Strip and and fold the fabric in half.

Fabric Strip Flower 005

Apply another strip of Sticky Strip along the upper raw edge of the strip.  Then, cut from the folded edge up to the Sticky Strip, about every 1/4″.

Fabric Strip Flower 008

Remove the red backing on the Sticky Strip and roll the strip along the Sticky Strip side.

When done, fluff the flower.  You can trim off the strings or pull to ravel them for a more shabby chic look.
