A customer recently asked if I could demo a way to paint using the Brusho Crystals in a controlled manner.
Brushos are great for creating abstract backgrounds, but she wanted something more defined.
So, this is what I came up with.
I really like how it came out, and my customer and other Feb. class attendees really liked it too.
It’s simple!
To do this technique, you will sprinkle Brusho Crystals on a piece of watercolor paper, then lightly spritz a stamp with water and stamp, activating the crystals.
Sprinkle the crystals in the area that you are going to stamp your image instead of all over the card front.
For this card, I sprinkled Yellow and Brilliant Red crystals towards the top and middle of the card front knowing about where the leaves from Sheltering Tree would be stamped. I spritzed the image with water and stamped.
But, what was the surprise is that I ended up with blue green leaves which is not a color that you would get from the Brushos.
I had to think about it for a few seconds, then realized that I must not have cleaned the stamp after using Mint Macaron ink on another project.
Happy surprise, and I really like how it came out.
So, I tried to duplicate it, and sure enough it works. Ink up the stamp using Mint Macaron ink, then stamp off leaving some ink.
Then, continue on with the technique.
The other key is to not get the stamp too wet. Lightly spritz it with water, or it’ll run making it look abstract.
After letting the paper dry for a minute or two, I stamped the tree trunk in Early Espresso ink using the Stamparatus.
Then, I sprinkled Yellow, Brilliant Red, Moss Green, and Brilliant Blue crystals towards the bottom of the tree. I spritzed the ground stamp lightly with water and stamped.
To complete the card, I matted the card front to a piece of Early Espresso, then added it to a Mint Macaron card base.
The greeting is from Floral and Fauna stamped in Early Espresso ink using the Stamparatus.
