If you’ve been following my blog posts the past couple of weeks, you’ll notice that I’ve become obsessed with the painted rock movement.
It’s big here in southern Colorado. Find and paint a rock. Leave it in a public space for someone to find. The,y in tur,n can leave it somewhere for someone else to find.
Oh, and if you can, take a photo of it and post it on one of the local painted rock Facebook pages.
For example, in my area, we have 719 Rocks, Canon City Rocks, Art & Soul Rocks, and Pueblo Rocks!

One of the things I’ve noticed is that the rocks we grow here along the Hardscrabble Creek outside of Wetmore are they often inspire what they’ll become just by their shape and color.
A lot of the rocks are shaped like the side of dog’s faces, therefore becoming “Rock Hounds!”
It’s going to be hard to give these away.
No real painting required with these.
Details were just filled in with Sharpie pens.
Others look like dinosaurs:
I left this one on Skyline Drive in Canon City, CO.
Skyline Drive is a road that follows the tops of the hogbacks on the western edge of the city.
There is a spot that was carved out of the rock showing fossilized dinosaur tracks.
There an informational sign that has been placed in front of the fossils.
That’s where I left this one. Kind of wish I kept it, as it just makes me smile!
Or this one. I just filled in the lines on the rock with a Sharpie pen. This one I’m keeping!
Here is the rock placed on our porch steps to greeting visitors:
And this one which I painted with a green Sharpie pen. He sits in the rock wall that outlines my bee and butterfly garden!
