Aquapainter Watercolor Wash Background Technique-Detailed Dragonfly

Watercolor Wash Detailed DragonflyOne of my favorite techniques is to create a simple watercolor wash background using an Aquapainter and ink.

For this card, I started out by creating my ink palettes by squeezing the tops of my closed ink pads. (Hard to photograph because I usually use both hands for the squeezing).

Colors used are Pacific Point, Marina Mist, Perfect Plum and Wisteria Wonder.

By doing this, the ink in the pad side will transfer ink into the lid.  This will now be my palette for picking up the ink with the Aquapainter.

Then,  I simply picked my ink colors from their lids using my Aquapainter, swiping each color in bands onto watercolor paper.

After the paper had dried, I stamped the dots image from the stamp set Dragonfly Dreams along the edges using Island Indigo and Perfect Plum inks.

The upper, detailed part of the dragonfly was cut out of Elegant Eggplant cardstock using the thinlits die from Detailed Dragonfly.  The lower, solid part of the wings was cut out of a scrap piece of Cucumber Crush card stock using the solid thinlit from the set.  The Cucumber Crush piece was left over from a recent cling wrap/shimmer ink project that didn’t quite work, but I had a nice piece of scrap paper to craft with. Remember, never throw anything away!

The dragonfly was popped up onto the card front using Dimensionals, the greeting from Wish Big (Paper Pumpkin) was stamped using Elegant Eggplant ink, and Candy Dots were added to complete the card.
