Die Cutting Aluminum Cans with the Big Shot-Dragonfly Dreams and Hexagons Dynamic Embossing FolderOne of my all-time favorite crafting techniques is cutting shapes out of aluminum cans using the Big Shot and dies.
I’m always on the lookout for aluminum cans with interesting colors and designs.
When my husband brought home cans of Arrogant Bastard Ale, my eyes lit up!
Black, red and white!
I knew I could create something fun using this beer can, especially when it was combined with a Coke can.
Here’s how the cans started out:
I cut the tops and bottoms off of each can, then cut down the center to flatten them out.
See instructions here (towards the end of the post).
Be careful, the cans are sharp at this point. Once they have been cut using the die or embossed using an embossing folder, the edges become smooth.
I used the outline die from the new Dragonfly Thinlits from Stampin’ Up to cut a dragonfly out of the Arrogant Bastard can.
I embossed the inside of the Coke can using the new Hexagons Dynamics Embossing Folder (my new favorite!) to use as the background.
I matted the embossed background to a piece of Real Red card stock, then attached it to my Basic Black card base. The greeting was heat embossed using silver embossing powder. The dragonfly was attached using Dimensionals. I colored rhinestones using a black Sharpie pen and added them for a little extra bling.
Try using aluminum cans in your crafting.
Once you’ve started, you’ll never look at an aluminum can the same way again!
