Anything But a Card-Lavender Sachets

Anything But a Card-Lavender Sachets

The swap theme for our Sunday Stamp Club this month is “anything but a card.”  I always struggle with this theme.  My criteria in deciding what project I will do is based on what I would like to receive.  Something useful that isn’t going to sit gathering dust.  Food packaged in pretty containers is always a good option, and that was what I thought I’d do initially.  Then, I came across some fabric sachets that my good friend Reba had made for me years ago.  This was way back when I was making and selling hand-crafted soaps and lotions.  I made gift baskets and I thought a nice addition would be a sachet filled with lavender.  I have a sewing machine, but I don’t like to sew, so Reba offered to make them for me.  And she made them in different purple patterned fabric as she knew that is my favorite color!

Well, one thing led to another, and I stopped making the soaps and lotions and never used the sachets.  But, I kept them and would come across them every once in a while and smile because they made me think of Reba.  Anyway, I thought they would be nice for the swap because they met the criteria of being something that I would like to receive.  The original sachets are pretty big and would take quite a bit of lavender to fill them up.  Since I don’t have any of those supplies anymore, and didn’t want to make a big investment, I decided to make them smaller by cutting them into fourths.  This meant of course getting out the sewing machine to stitch up new seams!

I ended up making 10 of them, some for the swap and some to give as thank-you gifts for the Ladies of Wetmore who recently attended a class.

I used the remaining dried lavender out of the small bag I had purchased at a local health food store to fill up one of the original larger sachets to send to Reba as a thank-you gift.  She probably doesn’t even remember making them for me.  But, I hope it will make her smile!

I used SU! markers (Elegant Eggplant), paper (Whisper White, Elegant Eggplant, Always Artichoke and Cucumber Crush), punches (Large Oval, Scallop Oval, Bitty Butterfly, and Banner Triple), Candy Dots and ribbon (Wisteria Wonder Seam Binding and either silver or gold stretchy trim to match the non-SU! safety pins) to create the labels.

I made an extra for me and placed it in one of my dresser drawers.  Love the smell of lavender and I hope the girls will too!
