Iris Folding Horse
Iris Folding is one of my favorite paper-crafting techniques.
What is Iris Folding?
Iris folding is a paper craft technique that involves folding strips of colored paper in such a way to form a spiraling design.
The center of the design forms an iris — similar to the shape of the iris of a camera lens.
Originally, thin papers like the insides of envelopes were used in Iris Folding. The papers would be folded in half, then the seam would be placed against the pattern.
Because I use the heavier weight designer paper, I do not fold the papers in half. This tends to add bulk to the back of the card front. Instead, I use a single strip of paper.

Our granddaughter is really into horses. She just turned 5, and I made this Iris Folding Horse card for her birthday.
For this card, I used this Iris Folding Horse pattern created by Circleofcrafters.com:
I used a mix of Stampin’ Up! papers: Shimmery Vellum for the head, gold glitter for the iris, and retired velveteen paper for the body. The velveteen paper has a soft, almost furry feel, perfect for adding a nice touchy element.
I added “grass” cut out of green Shimmery Vellum using pinking shears. Then, I added tulip and ladybug embellishments out of my stash.
The greeting comes from Blossoms in Bloom stamped in Real Red ink on a scrap of Basic White card stock and matted with Early Espresso.
The card was a big hit with our granddaughter!
