Floating Strips Technique Using Stampin’ Pastels

 Floating Strips Technique

Create the look of floating strips in your cardmaking!

This is an easy technique, perfect for using up paper scraps.

I decided to combine the Floating Strips Technique with Soft Pastels.

It’s been a while since I’ve used the Pastels, and this technique is a perfect venue for creating narrow, pastel-colored strips!

Floating Strips Technique How-to:

  1. Cut strips of watercolor paper.  Cut them in different widths or all the same.  I cut five strips for this card, all 1/2″ wide by 5″ long.
  2. Cut a piece of window sheet large enough to accommodate the number and width of the strips.  My window sheet measured 3 1/4″ x 5″.
  3. Color the watercolor paper strips using the Stampin’ Pastels.
  4. Swipe water using an aqua painter to smooth out the pastels.  Set aside to dry.
  5. Attach the strips of watercolor paper to the window sheet using a small amount of liquid glue, leaving a small gap in between. Be careful not to get glue on the window sheet.
  6. Punch or die-cut a circle or other shape.  For this card, I used a 2 1/2″ circle punch.
  7. Punch or die-cut a slightly larger shape out of Basic Black for a mat.  I used a 2 3/4″ circle die and die-cut machine.
  8.  Attach the window sheet to the mat, applying glue only where the strips of the watercolor paper show through the window sheet.  Again, don’t get glue on the blank window sheet.
  9. Using Poppy Moments Dies, die-cut poppy out of Petal Pink and Basic Black card stock.  Die-cut the leaves out of Soft Succulent, Mint Macaron, and Evening Evergreen card stock.  Layer the pieces using a small amount of Tombow Liquid Glue.
  10. Attach leaves to circle.  Attach poppy using Mini Dimensionals to pop it up.
  11. Stamp greeting on Basic White card front.  I used the Happy Birthday greeting from Pansy Petals using Memento Black ink.
  12. Attach circle to the card front.  Attach to Basic Black card base.
  13. Apply black and white matte dots to complete.

This card measures 3 1/2″ x 3 3/4″
