Embossing Folder Resist Technique
paired with Peekaboo Farm for a fun birthday card for our granddaughter.
Our granddaughter just turned six, loves horses and wants to be a “horsey rider” growing up.
She’s been anxiously waiting for her 6th birthday so she can take horseback riding lessons at a local stable.
This is the birthday card I created for her!
I used the Embossing Folder Resist Technique to create a blank circle within the embossed design on the card front.
By adding a thin template to the back of the embossing folder, the shape of the template is resisted on the card stock, leaving a blank space within the embossing.
Here’s How:
- Create a template. This template can be any shape. I chose to use a circle template for this card. Punch or die-cut three templates out of thin cardboard. I used the cardboard packaging found in the designer series paper from Stampin’ Up! I punched three 2 1/2″ circles in a row out of cardboard, leaving space between each circle. The punched circles will not be needed for this project. Instead, you will need the stencil part.
- Cut each of the stencils to approximately the same size. Layer them, one on top of the other, matching up the openings, using regular adhesive. Then, trim any excess edges so it is one piece.
- Adhere the template to the outside back of an embossing folder using a small amount of adhesive.
- Insert card stock into the embossing folder and emboss using a die-cut machine. You may have to switch around the plates in the die-cut machine due to the layer of cardboard on the back of the embossing folder. For this card, I used the retired Wood Grain embossing folder.
- Remove the card stock from the embossing folder. You should have a blank circle in the middle of the embossing where the template was.
- Stamp the horse from Peekaboo Farm in the middle of the circle using Early Espresso ink. I used the Stamparatus to get a good stamped image.
- Color the horse using various Stampin’ Blends. I used Bronze, Ivory, Light, and Dark Crumb Cake Blends.
- Punch or die-cut the leaves and flowers. I used a retired small flower and circle punch to punch several flowers out of Starry Sky and Balmy Blue card stock. I chose the blue-colored card stock because that is my granddaughter’s favorite color! I used a retired leaf punch to punch the leaves out of Pear Pizzazz card stock.
- To add more dimension to the flowers, I placed them on the foam mat and twirled the end of a stylus in their centers. By doing this, the edges of the flowers pop up.
- Layer the small circles on the flowers using a small amount of liquid glue, alternating the colors.
- Begin layering the leaves and flowers below the horse. Attach them using a small amount of liquid glue.
- Stamp greeting. I used the Happy Birthday greeting found in the retired Blossoms in Bloom stamped in Starry Sky ink using the Stamparatus.
- Attach the card front to the Early Espresso mat, then a Crumb Cake card base.
- Add various colors of dots to the centers of the flowers to complete.
