This week, I want to shine a light on a wonderful way to spread kindness far beyond your own mailbox: the Caring by Card network.
I first learned about Caring by Card from fellow crafters who were looking for a way to share their creativity and brighten someone’s day.
The idea is simple: gather up your extra handmade cards and send them to nursing home residents across the country. It’s a small gesture that brings a lot of smiles—and it’s a perfect solution for those of us with a few too many finished projects!
How to Participate in Caring by Card
- Visit the Caring by Card website for details on where and how to send your cards.
- Choose a handful of your handmade cards—any theme or style is welcome.
- Write a simple, uplifting message inside. Even just a “Thinking of you” can make someone’s day.
- Mail your cards to the address provided on the Caring by Card website.
It’s a wonderful way to use your creativity for good and connect with a larger community of cardmakers who care. I’ve sent several batches myself and always imagine the smiles they bring!

If you’re looking for inspiration, try making simple, bright cards that are easy to personalize. Here’s a favorite quick card design that’s perfect for sharing through Caring by Card:
- Start with a colorful base. I like to use Daffodil Delight or Granny Apple Green for a cheerful look.
