Pocketful of Sunshine Cards with Upcycled Paper Towel Backgrounds

While sorting through my paper scraps, I came across a paper towel filled with bright yellows and oranges.

It had been used to clean stamps and blot watercolor from previous projects—far too pretty to throw away.

As you know, I love incorporating recycled paper towels into my cardmaking because they add unique color and texture.

I immediately knew this piece would pair perfectly with the retired Pocketful of Sunshine stamp set and dies to create bright, sun-filled cards.

To create these cards, I first adhered the paper towel to a piece of cardstock so I could easily trim and die-cut it into the sizes I needed.

Next, I stamped the pocket image using my Stamparatus and Memento Black ink, then ran it through my die-cutting machine with the coordinating die.

For the first card, I die-cut the sun and rays directly from the paper towel to carry that bright, blended look throughout the design.

For the second card, I stamped and die-cut a pair of sunglasses from a scrap of Square Snippets DSP and added them to the pocket.

I created the sunglasses card for a friend who is moving to Florida, and I wanted to send her off with something cheerful to celebrate her new adventures in the Sunshine State.

To finish the cards, I stamped the greeting, layered the pockets onto bright pieces of Beautiful Bokeh DSP, and added a few gems for a touch of sparkle.
