Spinner Scraps to Floating Strips

Spinner Scraps to Floating Strips

Don’t toss out those scraps — transform them into something beautiful!

Those leftover pieces from your projects are perfect for creating even more unique and eye-catching cards.

With a little creativity, you can turn what might seem like trash into treasures that add extra charm, texture, and personality to your handmade creations!

For this card, I repurposed the leftover die-cut pieces from our recent Bee Mine Valentine Spinner Card class.

After die-cutting the spinner tracks with a Sending Die, I was left with some great scraps.

Instead of tossing them, I turned them into a colorful Floating Strips sunrise card, giving those pieces new life!

Spinner Scraps to Floating Strips How-to

    1. Create the Background
Start with a Shaving Cream Background using Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral, and Pumpkin Pie ink refills for a perfect sunrise look.

(Watch my Shaving Cream Background How-to Video HERE. This was the background for our Bee Spinner cards.)

    2. Repurpose the Scraps
After making the Bee Spinner cards, I had six leftover die-cut strips. Instead of tossing them, I turned them into Floating Strips!

  • Cut a piece of window sheet or transparency large enough to hold the strips.

  • Attach the strips to the sheet, leaving small gaps between them.

  • Punch or die-cut a 2 1/2″ circle from the assembled sheet to create your floating strips element.

     3. Create a Shaving Cream Tree

  • To add interest to the Floating Strips Sunrise, I made a shaving cream background using Old Olive, Shaded Spruce, and Soft Sea Foam ink refills.
  • Die-cut a tree shape from the shaving cream background using the open zipper die from the All Zipped Up Dies (the center of the unused zipper cut looks like a tree!)

     4. Stamp the Greeting

  • Stamp sentiment (Country Birdhouse) onto Lemon Lolly card front using Shaded Spruce ink.

     5. Assemble the Floating Strips

  • Apply Adhesive Foam Strips to the back of the Floating Strips piece, placing them behind the strips of card stock so they won’t show through the window sheet.

  • Attach to card front.  Attach to Shaded Spruce mat, then Basic White card base.

     6. Fussy cut a tree trunk out of Shaded Spruce card stock

  • Attach to the back of the tree.

  • Attach the tree to the card front using a strip of Adhesive Foam to pop it up.

     7. Add Blooming Pearls to complete
