I’m in full Christmas card making mode, so I checked one of my favorite challenge sites, Merry Monday, for a little Christmas card inspiration. This challenge site helps get us in the Christmas spirit by offering weekly Christmas challenges all year long.
This week’s challenge is “Santa”.
Here’s my contribution:
I do not own 1 Santa Claus stamp! I know, how sad! So, instead, I made a Santa Claus out of punches and the Single Christmas Star stamp. I had seen this idea on Pinterest awhile ago, and have been wanting to make my own Star Santa for awhile now. This challenge got me into gear!
These are the pieces I used made using punches and a star traced on cardstock and cut out:
1 3/4″ circle punch for Santa’s face out of Blushing Bride and sponged with Real Red ink
large circle from Owl Builder punch for Santa’s nose out of Blushing Bride and sponge with Real Red ink
2 small circles from Owl Builder punch for Santa’s eyes out of Basic Black
Petite Pennants Builder punch for Santa’s hat out of Real Red and embossed using the Big Shot and Stylish Stripes Embossing Folder
2 Word Window punch for hat’s brim out of Whisper White. The 2 pieces were attached as 1, then embossed using the Big Shot and Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.
7/8″ scallop circle punch for hat’s tassel out of Whisper White embossed using Petals a Plenty Embossing folder
2 birds from Bird Builder punch for Santa’s mustache out of Whisper White
3 petals from Build a Blossom punch for Santa’s beard, with the top 2/3 of each petal cut off
misc scrap pieces for Santa’s eyebrows out of Whisper White and Santa’s mouth out of Real Red
1 star (Christmas Star clear-mount stamp unmounted from block) traced on a piece of 8 1/2″ x 11″ Whisper White card stock, scored and folded at 5 1/2″. Once the outline of the star was traced, I cut it out using a pair of scissors. The top of the star was placed above the score line so it would open as a card. It was embossed using the Big Shot and Petals a Plenty Embossing Folder.
The hanger is attached to the back of Santa’s head using Mini Glue Dots.
Tips: play around with the different pieces to get the look you want. You may need to trim some of them, especially the beard and mustache pieces, to get the look you want.
