Tissue Paper Night Sky Background
After making a Milky Way background card for the Creatives of Fremont County Facebook challenge (view that card here), I was inspired to dive back into my scrap pile.
I found a bold, beautifully inked piece of plain tissue paper that I had colored with various inks several months ago, sparking a new idea.
With its rich, vibrant colors, it felt like the perfect starting point for another galaxy-inspired background—proof that even scraps can shine like stars with a little creativity!
Tissue Paper Night Sky Background How-to:
1. Create the Galaxy Background
- Start by adding various colors of ink to a piece of plain tissue paper using Stampin’ Blends, Sponge Daubers, or your preferred inking tool. Go bold or soft—customize the look based on your style!
- Once you’re happy with the color blend, adhere the tissue paper to a piece of cardstock to give it structure and stability. Trim any overhanging edges if needed.
- To create the starry sky effect, mix white craft ink refill with a bit of water on a palette or a clear acrylic block. Dip a small paintbrush into the mix and flick the white ink across the tissue background to create star-like splatters. Let it dry completely.
2. Make the Mountains
- Use Night of Navy and Misty Moonlight card stock to create your mountains. I used the retired Mountain Air die, but tearing the card stock will work too.
Layer the mountain pieces onto the dried background, using Dimensionals to add depth and shadow.
3. Finish the Card
- Mount the completed scene onto a Bubble Bath mat, then onto a Fresh Freesia card base. Add a stamped greeting if you wish—I chose to leave mine without one for flexibility.
- Finish with your favorite embellishments for a celestial touch!
