Torn Paper Technique using Catalogs
A great way to upcycle using pages and images in catalogs!
We all receive catalogs in the mail, right?
Clothing, toys, plant, gardening, etc.
After you’re done looking through them, and before throwing them away, why not go through them with one more purpose.
Look at the images, colors, and designs from a card-making standpoint.
Can you incorporate them into your crafting?
Yes!
That’s what I did with a Breck’s gardening catalog.
It is filled with pages and pages of beautiful flower images!
So, I combined this pretty tulip photo with the Torn Paper Technique.

Here’s How:
- Choose the image you want to use from the catalog and pick a coordinating color for the card front.
- Tear a strip out of the card front. You want it to be a narrow strip but wide enough so the design on the insert will show through. I used Garden Green card stock.
- With a straw or dowel, roll the torn strip back.
- Adhere with a thin line of liquid glue. Set it aside to dry completely.
- Attach the card front to the catalog page insert. You can adjust and trim the image to fit within the opening.
- Stamp the greeting and heat emboss the greeting. Used Dragonfly Garden heat embossed with white embossing powder
- Attach to the card base (So Saffron), and add embellishments of your choice.
