Under the Sun Masked Squares Cards

Under the Sun Masked Squares Cards

Bring a little sunshine to your craft room with these fun summer-themed cards featuring masked square backgrounds and the

Under the Sun Mix & Match Ephemera Pack.

By using simple square stencils and a variety of bright ink colors, I created colorful focal areas that perfectly showcase the beach-inspired ephemera pieces.

This easy technique adds depth, color, and visual interest while letting the pre-designed elements shine.

Whether you’re creating cards for summer birthdays, vacations, or just because, these cheerful designs are sure to brighten someone’s day.

Under the Sun Masked Squares Cards How-to:

  • Create the stencil
Die-cut or punch square openings from lightweight paper to create a stencil. I used the Perennial Postage and Squares Dies to cut shapes from Stampin’ Up! Grid Paper.
  • Add the inked backgrounds
Position the stencil over a piece of Basic White cardstock and secure it with washi tape. Using Blending Brushes, apply a variety of bright ink colors inside each opening. Mix and match colors to create cheerful summer-inspired focal areas.
  • Build the card design
Once you’re happy with the inked squares, remove the stencil and arrange the ephemera pieces from the Under the Sun Mix & Match Pack over the colored backgrounds. Layer the pieces as desired to create your scene.
  • Finish the card
Add a coordinating greeting, then mount the card front onto a mat and card base that complements the colors in the ephemera pack.
  • Your bright and sunny card is ready to send!
