Upcycled Paper Towels = Stunning Night Skies
Before you toss those inky paper towels, think again—they make amazing card backgrounds!
The soft, tie-dyed colors from a “used” towel can add unexpected texture and beauty.
For these cards, I upcycled one into a dreamy purple sky and paired it with the Lights of Aurora dies to create a striking mountain night scene.
Eco-friendly, creative, and full of dimension—paper towels have never looked so good!
The Lights of Aurora Suite Collection took the spotlight in my October Stampin’ Newsletter, where I shared three projects featuring the gorgeous 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper.

With its dreamy mix of purples, blues, and pinks, this DSP is right up my alley.
But if you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know I also love giving new life to paper towels I’ve used for cleaning stamps or blotting watercolors.
(See some of those projects HERE)
So, when I spotted a colorful paper towel left over from the October projects on my craft table, I knew I had to turn it into my own “Lights of Aurora” background. It’s simple, creative, and the perfect upcycling project!
Upcycled Paper Towels = Stunning Night Skies How to:
1. Create paper towel background:
-separate plys of the paper towel. You can use 1 ply for each project.
-add adhesive to Basic White card front and attach the paper towel
-die-cut landscape out of Basic Black card stock
-add landscape to paper towel card front, trimming the edges as needed
2.Finish card:
-attach card front to mat and to card base
-add Iridescent Gems to complete
Done!
It’s that easy, and the possibilities are endless!
