Aspen trees are one of my favorite subjects for nature-inspired cards, and they pair beautifully with soft watercolor backgrounds.
For these three cards, I used the acrylic block watercolor technique to create unique washes of color that mimic the feeling of a glowing forest scene.
Each background turns out a little differently, making every card a one-of-a-kind design.
The possibilities are endless!
Watercolor Block Aspen Cards How To:
Create the watercolor block background
-Tap ink onto Clear Block F. For these cards, I used a variety of colors: Azure Afternoon, Balmy Blue, Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral, Pumpkin Pie, and Old Olive.
-Lightly spritz the block with water, allowing the ink to run and pool.
-Press the block onto watercolor paper. Let it sit for a few seconds, then lift the block away.
-Allow the ink to dry completely.
Complete the Card
-Stamp the tree trunks from the Aspen Grove stamp set using Early Espresso ink.
Tip: Because watercolor paper has a textured surface, using a stamp positioning tool works best. It allows you to stamp the image more than once if needed to achieve a crisp impression.
-Stamp the leaves using Old Olive ink.
-Attach the panel to an Early Espresso mat, then to a Basic White card base.
-Add a greeting. I used a sentiment from the retired Sending Smiles stamp set.
