Happy Spring Umbrella Bouquet
for my Mom’s door at assisted living
I created this umbrella bouquet for my Mom for Spring and Easter.
I would have created a how-to video, but I wasn’t sure how I would put it together or how it would turn out.
So, I just proceeded, figuring it out as I went!
I got the idea from Jennifer at Celebrating Everyday Life HERE
Finding the right umbrella was the first challenge!
Online options were either too expensive or only available in bulk.
A local craft store had a beautiful spring-themed umbrella, but its mechanism was faulty, so back it went.
Finally, a thrift store came through with the perfect clear umbrella for just $2.99!
With the umbrella in hand, I gathered dried flowers, floral grass, and Easter-themed picks.
To keep the umbrella from opening too much, I secured it with a zip tie and hid it with a bow.
Metal tags covered in designer paper added the perfect finishing touch with a “Happy Easter, Happy Spring” greeting created and printed from my computer.
I wasn’t happy with how the bottom of the umbrella looked, so I folded a piece of wrapping paper into a cone, slipped it over the base, and secured it with hot glue for a polished finish.
My mom loved it, and it received plenty of compliments!
However, I quickly realized the dried flowers were shedding debris with every door movement.
Not wanting to create extra cleanup for the staff, I switched to artificial flowers for a fuller, mess-free look.
The end result?
A beautiful, long-lasting umbrella bouquet that made my mom’s door extra festive for spring!
This is not the first door hanger I have created for my Mom.
