Happy Camper-Masked Background

This week’s CASology cue word is “camp.”

Here’s my contribution:

Happy Camper 002

For this card, I started with the My Digital Studio download Happy Camper.  I purchased this download awhile back because of the bear image (plus I like the cute camper image).  Living in the rural mountains of SW Colorado, we have seen many a bear.  This is the time of the year that they start coming down from the higher elevations looking for food and water.  We actually had evidence that a bear visited us last night as a heavy sculpture in the yard had been knocked over.  He was probably rooting around looking for remnants of bird seed, as I put out food for the birds every morning at the base of the sculpture. The visit last night tells me it is time to stop feeding the birds for the next couple of months until we receive our first snow, probably the end of October.

I created the bear and camper images using MDS, then printed it on glossy white card stock.  I printed another copy of the camper on plain copy paper, cut it out and laid it over the main image to use as a mask while I created the landscape background.  To create the landscape, I sponged on various inks using sponge daubers.  For the mountains, I tore a piece of copy paper, used it as a mask and sponged on some Crisp Cantaloupe and Soft Suede inks.  After the background was complete, I removed the camper mask and colored in the window and door using markers.

The greeting was also created in MDS and printed out on a piece of card stock which was scored and cut down to a regular 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ card.

I thought later that maybe the greeting should be something like “Happy Bear-Day!”  Maybe for the next one 🙂  Plus, I’m not sure how much the occupants of the camper are really going to “enjoy the outdoors” with that curious bear so close!

  1. Maureen, yes, living in the country certainly has challenges. My neighbor used to have a red gazing ball in one of her flower beds. Every morning, she would see that the ball had been moved to other parts of her yard. She is sure a bear liked playing with it, batting it around. Your bear(s) probably view the playground toys as something curious and something to play with!

  2. Ardyth, Here’s another even better reason to say indoors-rattlesnakes! There was one in the garden the other day, coiled up underneath the cucumbers. I was weeding and my hand came within inches of him. Luckily, I saw him, backed away and the dog and I high-tailed it out of the garden. I still have the heebie jeebies thinking about how close I came to being bit!

  3. We have bears too. Luckily we only see them every once in a while. I love when they leave their muddy prints on the kids playground toys (not). I do love watching them from afar! Love the background you created and your CAMP scene! Thanks for playing along with us at CASology this week.

  4. AH! Bears – another reason to stay indoors! lol! Love your use of the dramatic black against the beautiful background! Thanks so much for playing along with us at CASology this week!
