Sense of Time, Dictionary card

The theme for our Sunday Stamp Club was “Victorian”.  This was a great challenge for us.

I have an old dictionary that I received from my great grandmother when I was about 10.  It has come apart at the spine and is now in two sections.  I have used some of the pages for various projects over the years, and I knew it would be perfect for a Victorian themed swap card.  And, I was very excited to use my Sense of Time stamp set.

This is a great way to use pages in old books, encyclopedias (remember those?) and magazines.

The pages of the dictionary have aged to a nice Soft Suede color which go perfect with the Soft Suede matting of the card.  I didn’t have to do any extra aging on the paper!

I stamped the clock on a piece of transparency and cut out using my Coluzzle.  The brad in the middle of the clock holds the piece to the dictionary page without having to use Mini Glue Dots which would have shown through the transparency.

Ink: Black Stazon, Soft Suede

Accessories: transparency sheet, black brads, 1/16″ hole punch, Coluzzle cutting system

I must pass on a funny story about my experience making these cards.  I carefully went through the dictionary when choosing the pages I wanted to use.  I wanted to have words that would reflect the Victorian age like “crystal”,”hand fan”,”tussie mussie”,”lace”, “pewter”, even “Victorian”.  I had one of the cards finished.  As I was admiring it, I looked at the word at the upper right hand corner.  To my horror, it was “gonorrhea”!  Well, I certainly couldn’t give out a card with the word “gonorrhea” front and center, so I quickly picked another page and started over.  I don’t even know what “g” word I was going for that would reflect the Victorian age on that page.  Whew, caught in the nick of time!
